Mumbai: The Azad Maidan Police have arrested six individuals, including Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Workers' Union Secretary Sujay Thombre, for allegedly kidnapping and demanding ₹10 lakh in extortion money. Police sources revealed that Thombre already has criminal cases registered against him at the Kurla and Sakinaka police stations.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sujay Shekhar Thombre (30) – MNS Workers' Union Secretary, resident of New Mill Road, Vasant Nagar, Kurla West; Sunil Sakharam Rane (56) – resident of Kalbadevi; Arun Harishchandra Borle (52) – resident of Chira Bazar; Arun Dhondiram Shirke (29) – resident of Nariman Point; Rohit Praveen Jadhav (24) – resident of Cuffe Parade; and Manohar Tukaram Chavan (39) – resident of Nariman Point.
According to police sources, the complainant, Vijay Pandurang More, a contractor residing in CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, has a contract to supply staff to a bank in Fort. On Monday morning, 17 contractual employees at the bank suddenly stopped working over a minor issue. Taking advantage of the situation, Sujay Thombre and his associates allegedly abducted More’s supervisor, Sujit Kumar Saroj, and assaulted him.
Later, the accused forcibly took More’s father, Pandurang More, in a vehicle to the MNS Workers' Union office in Dadar. There, they allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh in extortion money to settle the dispute.
Following the incident, Vijay More filed a complaint at the Azad Maidan Police Station, leading to the registration of a kidnapping and extortion case. The police arrested all six accused on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether the accused were involved in similar extortion activities.
