In a shocking incident, a man seeking change for 1,000 UAE Dirhams duped cashier at the main counter of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel of Rs 46,000. The Colaba police is currently on the lookout for the man.
According to Indian Express, the incident took place on January 20 around 4 pm. The accused asked for change with a cashier named Ashish Vijay Shirke. When Shirke found out that he was not staying in the hotel, he refused. Later, the accused then pointed at the drawer and pleaded Shirke to look for change. The accused then asked the cashier to give him the new Rs 2,000 notes. “The cashier handed him the notes. He saw them and left,” a police officer told the leading daily.
But, later the same day at around 8 pm, when Shirke was counting the day’s earnings he realised that 23 notes of Rs 2,000 denomination were missing. After cross-checking again, he later informed the duty manager of the hotel. The hotel’s security later checked CCTV footages; that is when they zeroed down on the accused. While checking the CCTV footages they saw that the man came to the main counter around 4 pm asking for change and diverted cashier’s attention, during which the man removed 23 notes. The man had entered the hotel with a woman but approached the counter alone. The cops are currently investigating the matter and are trying to ascertain whether the suspect is an Indian or foreign national.
