A 30-year-old woman was arrested and a 15-year-old boy was detained for allegedly kidnapping a 1-year-old child from Thane station.
According to Indian Expres, the accused woman was identified as Shaista Shaikh. The incident came to light when the child’s mother Radha Mulekar and the complainant in the case approached the Kopari police on early Thursday alleging that her daughter had been kidnapped. Mulekar, who works as rag picker, sleeps with her two children – aged three and one – at Thane station’s platform number 10. When she woke up on Thursday morning she found that her one-year-old daughter missing, after which she approached the police.
The cops then set up three teams to search the child and identify the accused. The teams then started scanning the CCTV footages in which they were able to identify the accused. The cops traced the accused to a house in Vartak Nagar. Shaista Shaikh who is a homemaker and her husband works at a private firm. After Shaikh was arrested, she claimed that she wanted to sell the child and told cops that the 15-year-old boy helped her pick up the child. Police managed to trace the child and the kidnappers within 12 hours.
