While six people perished in the horrific CSMT footover bridge collapse in Mumbai, some survived to tell the tale
Rajesh Lokhande (49) who works with the chief of BJPs women’s wing Praveena Kuldeep Modi would usually leave for home around 7.30 pm. On Thursday, he bought some hot kachoris for his wife who was waiting for him at home in Dombivli.
So his boss gave him permission to leave their Zaveri Bazar office 15 minutes before his shift ended and he had just reached the top of the bridge when it collapsed. “Everything happened so suddenly that I didn’t feel a thing until much later,” he told Modi later.
He sustained a severe spine injury and was undergoing a battery of tests the rest of the evening. Modi and her team attended to him until his family came much later in the day.
Vijay Sadashiv Bhagwat, 38, was on his way for his night shift at GT Hospital. He was on the bridge when it fell. Bhagwat who sustained a fracture on his left hand and leg along with injuries to his face called his wife, Tejasvini Bhagwat and said, “I’m injured, please come soon.”
Ravindra Mohite, Bhagwat’s neighbour, said, “We thought that he’s joking and it was a prank but then he said that he can’t talk due to the pain. The phone suddenly disconnected and we rushed to CSMT from Kalyan.”
