Every year during monsoon Mumbai faces flooding, so to counter that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has spent over Rs 50 crore to prevent waterlogging at chronic spots. But Mumbaikars will have to still face waterlogging at Hindmata junction in Dadar as the main pipeline obstructs storm water drain work.

According to Indian Express, the storm water drain department of the BMC, which is working on augmenting the drainage system, has discovered a 600 mm diameter main water pipeline that stands in its way while working on drains. 80 percent of the work on the 950 m long storm water drain has already been completed by the BMC. But the BMC has faced an obstacle in Hindmata junction in Dadar where the water main line that supplies to Dadar-Parel areas comes in its way.

A civic engineer told the Indian Express, “We have completed 80 percent work on this line and it will provide some relief on B A Road and Byculla police chowki. But with the water pipeline crossing the drain, we will either have to elevate it or divert. Since the city is facing water cuts, we could not walk on it as that would have required additional water cuts.” The BMC had planned to complete the work before the monsoon this year but now as they faced an obstacle, Hindmata junction won’t get relief from monsoon flooding. The BMC has set a new deadline of 2020 for completing the work.
