Mumbai: Two Nigerians have been arrested for allegedly installing a skimmer inside an ATM at Kandivli. The arrests were made by Samata Nagar Police after an alert citizen informed the bank. The accused have been identified as Isahi Ogunle Seyi, 34, and his female accomplice, Kharad Rezi Maggi, 37. They were found to possess data of 30 customers.

On May 11, a customer went to the Yes Bank ATM at Thakur Village, Kandivli, near Janupada. While inserting the card in the slot, he found the slot was loose and suspected something amiss. He immediately alerted the bank authorities. When bank officials checked the ATM, they found a skimmer device and a video camera had been installed on it.

Immediately after this discovery, the bank officials registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, for forgery (465), cheating (420), punishment for attempting to commit offence (511) and sections of Information Technology Act.  After the FIR was registered, Samata Nagar Police laid a trap at the ATM for the accused. In this period, a Nigerian came to the ATM and tried to insert his card, but suspecting something was wrong, he ran out.

The police team present at the spot caught Seyi after a brief chase. During interrogation, Seyi revealed he had an accomplice, Maggi. Police arrested her from Nalasopara, where the duo resided. They also recovered another skimmer unit, a microcamera, and three debit cards from the duo.
