A special court on Saturday rejected bail pleas of Nagpur-based Satish Uke and Pradeep Uke in a money laundering case observing that there is sufficient material against them.
The special court trying cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act said that the brothers have deep-rooted involvement in the money laundering offence as alleged by the investigating agency.
Also, the brothers are influential persons and there is the possibility that they may influence witnesses or tamper evidence, if released on bail, the court said.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the Uke brothers in March under the PMLA. There are two FIRs registered against them at Nagpur. In one of the cases, they grabbed one-and-a-half acres of land in the Babulkheda area of Nagpur around two decades ago. In the second case, the brothers allegedly grabbed five-and-half acres of land at Bokhare from one Mohammed Jaffar.
On June 9, the special court had taken cognisance of the charge sheet filed against Uke and his elder brother Pradeep in the alleged money laundering case and issued a process against the brothers.
