Mumbai: Amid the call by BJP and various organizations representing Maratha and OBCs, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will lead a delegation on Tuesday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek the Centre’s intervention for the restoration of 12% quota in education and 13% in government jobs for the Maratha community, 27% political reservation for OBCs in local bodies and 33% quota in promotions for backward classes.

Thackeray, who will be accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Public Work Minister Ashok Chavan, will urge PM to resolve these issues through Constitutional amendment and also by recommending to the President of India for the restoration of quota, especially for the Maratha community.

Reservation for Maratha and OBCs has been scrapped by the Supreme Court citing they were in excess of 50% ceiling.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Monday met CM at his official residence Varsha to finalize the memorandum to be submitted to Modi.

Further, CM will make a fresh appeal to introduce Cup & Cap model in the implementation of crop insurance scheme in a serious bid to provide benefits to the farmers. ‘’In the present set-up, farmers are getting less payout while insurance companies earning a big chunk. Of the Rs 5,800 crore, the insurance companies got as high as Rs 5,000 crore towards premiums while the farmers could get hardly Rs 800 crore. The state government will appeal the PM to adopt Cup & Cap Model that will benefit the farmers,’’ a senior bureaucrat, who will accompany CM, told Free Press Journal.

Further, the CM led delegation will urge the PM for an early clearance of GST dues worth Rs 24,000 crore, revise the NDRF norms for providing assistance to the states after the natural calamities and disasters, expedite clearances for the development of Bulk Drug Park in Raigad district and seek central assistance for Tautkae cyclone-affected areas in Maharashtra.
