The Lok Sabha elections which are fast approaching, the district administration is setting mechanism to have a smooth election process. The district administration for Mumbai may hire app-based cabs of taxi aggregators Ola and Uber for the election duty on April 29.
According to the Hindustan Times, the district administration for the island city asked the regional transport office (RTO) to check the possibility of hiring app-based cabs. Shivaji Jondhale, district collector of Mumbai suburban district told the leading that, “We are trying to tie up with Ola and Uber on a per-day basis.” The district administration will also hire black-and-yellow cabs and autorickshaws to provide pick up and drop facility to differently-abled voters.
The report further stated that the district administrations in the city and suburbs have said that they will 20-25% more vehicles for the duty this time compared to 2014 elections. The district administrations have demanded taxis, tempos, trucks, and buses. The district administrations will use trucks and tempos for ferrying voting machines and other material, while buses will be used for police and other security agencies.
