Heavy rains, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected to lash parts of Maharashtra, namely Konkan, north-central and south Maharashtra and Marathwada region till June 12.
A forecast released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday has predicted heavy rains in Raigad, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.
The IMD warned of enhanced rainfall activity along the Maharashtra coast from June 10. Isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall along from June 10.
In the wake of the forecast of heavy rains in Mumbai and other coastal areas of the state during this week, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday directed the state administration to stay alert and be prepared to tackle any eventuality.
Thackeray directed the administration at the state and district levels to work in coordination and ensure people do not face any hardships.
Over the weekend, the IMD had issued a warning predicting four days of heavy rains in all districts of Konkan, including Mumbai. "All the districts in the Konkan, including the Mumbai metropolitan area, have been warned of heavy rains during the four days from June 9 to 12," the CMO had said.
