Infant dies in wall collapse at Govandi; 41 trees uprooted due to the downpour
Mumbai : Heavy rains threw normal life out of gear in suburban Mumbai and adjoining areas on Thursday. The incessant rain claimed the life of a two-month-old infant in a wall collapse at Govandi on Monday evening. His mother too was injured in the incident and was admitted to Shatabdi hospital, an official from Disaster Management cell said.
Another wall collapse incident was reported at Sea Hill building, near Olive Restaurant in Bandra. It was 70 ft long and 20 ft high in height. There are no reports of any casualty.
A total of 41 trees were uprooted in the city. In two different tree collapse incidents, two people were injured. Civic officials said that both injured went sent home after first aid. The highest number of tree collapses were reported from Western suburbs – 30 tree uprooted. In the city, three trees collapsed and in eastern suburbs, eight trees collapsed.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) tall claims of nullah cleaning proved hollow on Tuesday as water logging was reported at more than a dozen of places in the city and suburbs.
According to civic officials, water logging was reported in Mahim, Sion, Dharavi; Chembur, Govandi, Kurla, Mulund, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and Mankhurd in eastern suburbs and Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Vile Parle, Andheri, Goregaon, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar areas in western suburbs.
There were total of six reports of electricity short circuits – two each in city, eastern suburb and western suburbs. There were no reports of any casualty.
