FIR filed in Lotus Park blaze

Mumbai : The Amboli police, at 2 am on July 23, registered an FIR against the owners, occupiers, developers, secretary, chairman, manager and others in the Lotus Business Park building’s fire case.

The building which had caught fire on the morning of Friday, July 18, after a suspected short circuit, gutted the top three floors of the building and resulted in the death of a fireman and injury to 20 others. The parties mentioned above have been charged under sections 304(A) (Causing death by negligence), 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

They have also been charged under sections 3(3), 4(2) and 36 of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act 2006.

The complainant is the Divisional Fire Officer, Y R Jadhav. However, the Corporators at the BMC Standing Committee meeting demanded that a complaint also be filed against the Fire Officer(s) who were irresponsible during the whole fire-fighting operation.
