Ethiopian national arrested for molesting 21-year-old woman in South Mumbai hotel

Crime against women is on the rise in the city, one such incident came to light where a 21-year-old woman allegedly molested by an Ethiopian national in South Mumbai-based Gokul Hotel. The police have arrested the Ethiopian national.

According to Mumbai Mirror, the accused has been identified as 51-year-old Getrachew Akane. The incident took place when the victim came to the hotel with her friends and, after drinks and dinner, the group left. After which the woman later returned to use the washroom, that when the accused allegedly stopped her and would not let her go. The accused also grabbed her hands, made her sit beside him and offered her money.

The woman then slapped the accused, by that time her friends arrived at the scene and an argument broke out. The police were later called and they all were taken to the police station. “The victim narrated the whole incident. We verified her story. The accused was offering her money in return for something. The victim said he outraged her modesty and hence we registered an FIR against him and placed him under arrest,” a police officer told the leading daily.

The cops have also said that both of them were under the influence of alcohol. The accused had come to India for a holiday and is attached to a private company. The cops have booked the accused under section 354 A (sexual harassment) of the IPC. The cops have also informed the Ethiopian Embassy about the arrest and the police are also verifying if he had any past records.
