Thane, June 15: A 28-year-old man riding a motorcycle fell into an under construction brook near CritiCare hospital. The rider was rescued by the Regional disaster management cell officials but was declared dead by doctors on arrival. The Wagle Estate Police have booked the contractor and have also arrested him.
According to the regional disaster management cell of Thane, the incident took place on Tuesday at 6 am. The rider is Prasad Deulkar, 28, a resident of Diva.
"He stayed at his friend's place in Thane and was returning back home. He met with the accident near CritiCare hospital, next to Korum Mall, Sambhaji Nagar, Wagle Estate in Thane. It was drainage line repair work carried out by a contractor from last one month. It was assigned by the Thane municipal corporation," said a police officer.
The police said Deulkar the deceased used to stay in Yashodhan nagar in Thane and he shifted to Diva a few years ago. "He came to meet his friend and stayed overnight to return home early. It was around 5 am, when the deceased couldn't notice the construction work, as there were no barricades or signs as precautionary measures.
He fell into the deep drainage brook which was 12 to 15 feet deep. The RDMC and fire officials, who received a call at 6am, reached the spot and rescued Prasad. He was shifted to hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors," said a police officer.
The police said they had submitted a report to Thane Municipal corporation to get a clear picture of the work and contractor. After it was found negligence on part from the contractor, a case was registered and Abhijeet Boradkar 37, the contractor.
DS. Dhole, senior police inspector, Wagle estate police station confirmed a negligence case has been registered against the contractor and have arrested the accused.
