Mumbai : A day after the death of Mumbai’s Chief Fire Officer Sunil Nesrikar, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had approached his family asking them to vacate the government quarters they are currently residing in within a period of three months. Nesarikar is survived by his wife, son and his ailing mother.
Vinod Gada, a close friend of the Nesarikar family, said, “Officials from the fire department came to us a day after the cremation with a checklist of papers and procedures we had to complete. Among them was a clause about vacating the government quarters. We requested them to give us some time as the family is in mourning. However, officials from the fire department have been repeatedly approaching us to complete the procedure.”
Nesarikar’s brother-in-law, Shukleshwar Chavan, while speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, “We have requested a meeting with Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta regarding this issue. We do not want anything from the government, but the family will have nowhere to go in Mumbai if they are made to leave this house. Nesrikar’s son is currently pursuing his engineering in Mumbai and has three years of college left. We want to request the BMC to allow the family to stay on in this house for 3 more years.”
