Palghar : It seems the purpose with which a police chowki at Tulinj in Nallasopara east was converted into a so-called full-fledged police station has failed completely and that too in a horrendous manner. Assaults and murders, molestations, chain snatchings, robberies by drug addicts, kidnapping, house break-ins could be seen in Nallasopara east in broad daylight since the opening of Tulinj police station barely 6 months back.

This police station was carved out of Nallasopara police station so that focus could be maintained on chronic areas like Santosh Bhavan and its adjoining slums. However, the crime rate is only rising with cops moving clueless. The situation has become very grim as last week has seen couple of murders, kidnapping, chain-snatching in broad daylight and with a few incidents wherein people have turned out to be mere witnesses.

Sources also confirmed that owing to lack of space the Local Crime Branch had to be transferred to the Nallasopara (west) police station which is blessed with ample of space and can house more than 10 police stations of the size of Tulinj police station.

While speaking to FPJ, Nallasopara MLA Kshitij Thakur said, “We have been following up with the state for pending approvals of five new police stations including one in Achole and Pelhar. We have also requested the authorities to increase the staff in existing police stations which will help cops in manning the streets and keeping a tight vigil.”

Thakur also appealed to the citizens not to fall prey to any rumours that might have been politically motivated to create tension between two communities.

The cops, on the other hand, have been trying their best to control this increasing crime rate by conducting regular meets with senior citizens, jewelers and merchants’ bodies but anti-social elements always succeed in being one-up as compared to the cops.

Regular nakabandis and campaign against drunk and drive are also being conducted and suspected people are questioned on a regular basis. Police officials said that they are tapping all possible options to check the increasing crime rate. Bajirao Kalantre, PI of Tulinj police station, said, “We have increased the patrolling to keep a check on criminals and will restart the ‘Police Mitra’ campaign at the earliest.”

When FPJ tried to reach the Palghar SP, she said that she was travelling and couldn’t be reached later as her phone was busy.
