Mumbai : Colourful floats will be a part of the coming Republic Day parade to be held at Shivaji Park, akin to the one being held at New Delhi every year.
This will be the first time when a presentation, similar to the one in New Delhi, will happen in Mumbai. The colourful floats will be based on various themes and are going to be the highlight of the Republic Day parade in the city this year. A contingent from the Indian Army will also participate in the parade for the first time.
“This Republic Day parade is going to be unforgettable for all viewers. The rehearsals are going on in full swing,” said Suresh Shetty, Public Health Minister.
The Indian film centenary year, UID card scheme, adventure sports tourism, right to education, power conservation, RTI, schemes for social justice, schemes for welfare of farmers, and E waste management are some of the themes that the floats will be based on. Tribals from Maharashtra will be presenting folk dances during the ceremony.
K Sankaranarayanan, Governor of Maharashtra, will be hoisting the flag during the parade that is slated to start by 8 am at Shivaji Park on Saturday.
