On Day 1, two eateries from Dadar and Wadala display fire brigade’s permissions
Mumbai : After strict action and checks by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) following the Kurla restaurant fire, eateries in the city have started displaying the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire brigade saying the restaurant is following fire safety norms.
The BMC had initiated action against all the restaurants in the city after a fire in Hotel City Kinara in Kurla, where eight people were killed. The restaurant was reported to have flouted fire safety norms and also have illegal structures. In a week, the BMC had checked 230 hotels and restaurants and sealed 50 restaurants, where the norms were not followed or illegal extensions were found.
On Monday, Jyoti Restaurant at Dadar TT and Satkar Restaurant at Wadala displayed the copies of NOCs and other permissions from BMC and fire brigade.
According to spokesperson of Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR), all restaurants are going to display the permissions at the entrance. “We have already asked all the restaurants to display the NOCs, so that customer can rest assured that the restaurant is safe and legal,” said the spokesperson.
The members of AHAR had met civic chief Ajoy Mehta and gave an assurance that they will adhere to all BMC norms.
In the meeting, restaurant owners promised that they will display the NOC issued by the BMC at the entrance of the hotel to assure customers that the hotel is safe and that the eatery had obtained all required permissions.
