Mumbai: A Bombay High Court judge, Justice Madhav Jamdar, has ordered a police inquiry into a suspected “attempt to frame” him. This comes after advocate Partho Sarkar repeatedly called the judge's wife, expressing urgent interest in buying their Mumbai flat. These calls occurred shortly after Justice Jamdar directed the Bar Council to investigate another lawyer, Vijay Kurle.
According to the court order dated April 29, Sarkar, described as a close associate of Kurle, made several calls between April 22 and April 24, and also one in October of the previous year. Justice Jamdar disclosed that Sarkar contacted his wife multiple times about their jointly owned flat, which was listed online.
The following day, Justice Jamdar spoke to Sarkar, informing him that he was a sitting High Court judge. The judge noted in his order, "After the conversation with him was over, within 2 to 3 minutes, I realised that the said laughter was not natural and therefore I became suspicious."
Upon checking his wife's phone, Justice Jamdar discovered Sarkar's WhatsApp profile, identifying him as an advocate who had not disclosed his profession despite knowing he was speaking to a judge.
The court has linked these calls to an order passed on April 9, which initiated an inquiry into advocate Vijay Kurle's conduct. The court also took note of the behavior of advocate Mathews Nedumpara, another close associate of Kurle.
Nedumpara had allegedly accused the court of insulting him and stated he was "not the slave of the Court" before leaving the courtroom without permission on April 17.
Justice Jamdar concluded, "Thus, it is clear that an attempt is made to frame this Court, as this Court had passed order against Mr. Vijay Kurle," leading to the order for a police probe. The court has also requested that the Chief Justice assign the case to a different bench.
