Bhiwandi: In a shocking incident, two constables and their informer, in an inebriated condition on Sunday evening, passed lewd remarks at a girl who was waiting for her father.
When the girl resisted their overtures, one of the three urinated in front of the girl at Mankoli Naka in Bhiwandi. The accused were identified as head constable Shailesh Patil, another police constable called Jadhav and their informer Dinesh Patil; two of them have been arrested.
The constables are from the Bhiwandi Narpoli police station. The girl, a BSc second year student, was returning from Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai after appearing for the state competitive exam and waiting for her father Shantaram Mhatre to pick her up from Mankoli naka.
When she raised an objection to Shailesh Patil’s behaviour he told her not to teach him the law as he is a policeman. The girl politely told him that if he is a cop then he should be a law-abider. Enraged by her remarks, he physically assaulted her and the other two joined him in abusing her.
Meanwhile, the girl’s father, Shantaram Mhatre, who reached the spot, intervened and warned them against taking the law into their own hands. Enraged, the trio allegedly beat him up. Mhatre, who later got admitted at a private hospital in Thane for treatment, approached the Narpoli police station and lodged a complaint.
Senior police inspector Maloji Shinde, Narpoli police station, said, “We have registered a case under Section 354, 323, 504, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. We arrested them and produced them before the Bhiwandi court and they have been placed in the Magistrate Court’s custody for 14 days.
