30,000 Men Protest For Employment

MUMBAI: Around 30,000 employees of the MG-NREGA Association went on an indefinite strike in Mumbai at Azad Maidan with demands that there should be same salary for the same post, basic rights and job security is mandatory.

Rajan Shirsagar, President of MG NREGA Shirsagar Employess Association, alleged that under NREGA, there is a provision of 100 days guaranteed work for the rural poor. “The state government is sabotaging this law. In Maharashtra the strong lobby of builders and sugar mill owners are pressuring the government not to implement NREGA. Due to Pressure from these lobbies the Maharashtra government is not implementing all the provisions of NREGA.”
