A 3-day camp for cops underway at Global Hospital
Mumbai : A total of 220 cops were checked for stomach and abdominal problems in a three-day camp held for Mumbai police officers at Global Hospital which commenced on Thursday. Health experts claim that owing to long working hours, long gaps between meals and unhealthy dietary habits, police officers are falling prey to various diseases.
At the end of the camp which will get over on Saturday, the reports of this survey will likely be revealed on Sunday. Further, based on the findings of the survey, guidelines including the dos and don’ts will be issued for all the police officers. Also, lectures will be held by the hospital’s doctors for the sensitisation of the police officers.
On the first day of the three-day camp, doctors checked medical history of all the police officers, following which they took blood tests and checked for various problems and diseases related to stomach, abdomen and gastreoentritis in the cops.
Out of the 220 cops, 100 of them have been called again on Friday for endoscopy procedure and 40 cops for sonography. The remaining 180 cops have been administered with lifestyle modification treatment wherein they will have to follow a proper diet schedule and look after their health in the right manner.
Health experts claim that abdominal problems are the root cause of all the illnesses and diseases such as high blood pressure, cardiac diseases, obesity and constipation. Dr Amit Maydeo, director of gastroenterology and endoscopy at Global Hospital, said, “Police officers are one of the most burdened lot in our city. They work for 14 hours long and during which there is at least eight-ten hours of gap between their meals. Owing to this, they end up eating vada pav and sandwiches which is unhealthy. Through the camp, we want them to bring necessary changes in their lifestyle and dietary habits.”
