Mumbai : Luxury goods including gold and diamonds worth Rs 1.34 crore were seized at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport over two days from two persons.
In the first case, the Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Customs arrested one Priyank Morakhiya – a Surat-based diamond trader on Friday night. The accused, who held an Indian passport, had arrived from Hong Kong by Jet Airways.
“A 1 kg gold bar, one 5 gm gold bar and one 4 gm gold coin together weighing 1,009 gm worth Rs 23.53 lakh were kept in his wallet. Also, 456 pieces of diamonds worth Rs 16 lakh and two Audemars Piguet wristwatches worth Rs 48.18 lakh were recovered from his shoulder bag. The valuables were totally worth Rs 87.71 lakh,” said APS Suri, Commissioner of Customs.
On Saturday, one Surur Mohammed Basha with an Indian passport was arrested when he arrived from Abu Dhabi by an Air India flight. “Two gold bars weighing 2,000 gm worth Rs 46.63 lakh were concealed the bars in his shoes,” Suri added.
