Mumbai : The holy Ganesh festival was marred by a gang rape incident when a 16-year-old girl was targeted by four unidentified men after beating up her boyfriend in Golwadi area of Aurangabad on Monday .
Police said that one Rajesh (22, name changed) from Bajajnagar in Waluj, had had gone with his girlfriend to a desolate place on a motorcycle, where they sat under a tree holding hands. They were stalked by four men, who reached the spot and beat Rajesh up ruthlessly. The men then carried the girl into the thick shrubs and raped her before fleeing the spot.
Later, Rajesh rushed to the main road and sought help. The Sarpanch of the village Teesgaon, Anjan Salve, who was passing by alerted the police and launched a massive search for the rapists with the help of autorickshaw drivers, but in vain.
The girl was taken to a government hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. A case has been registered in the Cantonment police station, and the police are on the lookout for the accused.
