Chandigarh: The Punjab police was on Wednesday granted 7-day remand of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who was suspected to be the main conspirator in the Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala murder case.

Bishnoi, who was brought from Delhi by Punjab police late on Tuesday amid stringent security, was presented before judicial magistrate first class (duty magistrate) in district Mansa at around 4.40 am, subsequent to which it took him to CIA staff office in Kharar (district Mohali) for interrogation in Sidhu Moose Wala murder case.

Since Bishnoi’s counsel had contended in the court that there was a threat to his client’s life and that Bishnoi could be killed in a fake encounter, the state police had gone to Delhi with two bulletproof vehicles and a posse of policemen to convince the court there was ample security for safe transit of the suspect to Punjab.

The Punjab police special investigation team (SIT) is also banking on Bishnoi’s interrogation hoping he would provide vital clues that might lead to the arrest of the assailants involved in the murder.

Apart from Bishnoi, the state has so far arrested nine suspects, including three jailed gangsters - Manpreet Singh Manna, Saraj Sandhu, alias Mintoo, and Monu Daggar - besides Naseeb Khan, Pawan Bishnoi, Manpreet Singh Bhau, Sandeep Singh, alias Kekada, Charanjit Singh alias Chetan Sandhu and Prabhdeep Singh Pabbi. They had reportedly either provided logistics support to the shooters or conducted the recce ahead of the killing of Moose Wala on May 29, according to the SIT (Special Investigation Team).

The SIT has also claimed to have identified four shooters though it has yet not disclosed the exact number of shooters and their identities. Besides Bishnoi, a Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar too is also reportedly linked with the said murder case. He had also claimed the responsibility for the murder.

It may be recalled that the sensational murder of Moose Wala near his home in village Jawaharke in Mansa district had rocked the state triggering grief and anguish among his admirers in the country and abroad. His neighbourer Gurwinder Singh and cousin Gurpreet Singh were also grievously hurt in the shout-out.
