Ujjain: Final measurement of 11 houses and shops coming under the purview of Mahakal Temple expansion scheme was done on Tuesday.
The final phase of acquisition is thus underway; now the compensation will be fixed by giving a monthís time to the landlords for hearing and after fixing the compensation. The administration will take possession of these properties after dispensing the compensation.
To promote tourism in Ujjain, Smart City is spending Rs 500 crore on expansion and beautification of Mahakal temple.
To keep the front part of the temple open-ended, 11 houses on the front side are being acquired. The acquisition process was stalled due to the second wave of corona and it has been started once again.
Due to some difference in the first measurement, on Tuesday, the officers and employees of PWD and Revenue Department conducted measurement of 7 houses on the road leading to Bharat Mata temple and 4 houses on the way to Mahakal police station to iron out the issues in preparation of the compensation estimate.
The owners of these houses have won the case against the acquisition, but after the order of the Supreme Court, the administration has started the process again.
As per the decision the area falling under the 500 metres radius of the Mahakal temple can be vacated, therefore the administration is vacating these houses.
SDM Sanjeev Sahu said that the process of final phase for land acquisition in Mahakal temple expansion is being completed. One month's notice will be given to the landlords. After that the compensation will be determined. At present, there is talk of giving two times compensation to the shop and the landlord. It is worth mentioning that Collector Ashish Singh has given instructions to expedite the works of Mahakal temple expansion scheme on Monday itself, whereby only 11 houses facing the front are to be acquired.
