Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Three people, including a woman from Chhattisgarh, were arrested for befriending a man through a dating app and robbing him of cash, mobile phone and his scooter at her rented house in the Aerodrome area on Thursday. The accused had called the complainant on the pretext of meeting. Police claimed that the accused were identified and arrested within 12 hours.
DCP (zone-1) Vinod Kumar Meena informed the Free Press that a 46-year-old man from the Musakhedi area of the city lodged a complaint on Wednesday that a few days ago, a woman befriended him through a dating app. He started chatting with her on the app and she called him to her place with food.
When the complainant reached her place in the Aerodrome area, two men were also there. They thrashed the complainant and snatched his wallet, mobile phone and scooter. He was scared after the incident so he fled from there and later lodged a complaint with the police.
Over 100 CCTVs examined to identify accused
After registering a case under sections 296, 115 (2), 351(3), 309 (4) and 3 (5) of BNS against unidentified people, ACP (Malharganj) Vivek Chouhan constituted a team led by Aerodrome police station in charge Tarun Singh Bhati to search for the accused. The team had to examine more than 100 CCTVs installed in the area to identify the accused.
The cops identified the accused and arrested them within 12 hours of the FIR. The accused include Ajay Vasuniya of Manpur, presently living in Chhota Bangarda, Vikash Bhabhar of Mhow (present resident of Chhota Bangarda area of the city) and a woman Mansi (name changed), a resident of Chhattisgarh.
The men had rented the house and the woman was staying with them. The accused confessed to their crime after which the mobile phone and the scooter robbed from the complainant were recovered from them. They were being questioned further, said police. A case was also registered against the landlord for not giving the tenant’s information to the police.
People should be aware of fake dating apps
Police station in charge Bhati said that the people should be aware of fake dating apps to avoid such incidents. If the man was aware of such dating apps, this incident could have been avoided. He said the landlords should go in for police verification of the tenants before giving the house on rent to unknown people.
