Indore: Out of the frying pan into the fire. Patients suffering from mucormycosis (Black Fungus) are going though the same situation as they have been facing another trouble due to the side effects of the antifungal injection, important for the treatment of the disease.

Many patients are getting chills followed by fever, nausea, and other issues while attendants say that managing these side-effects is a tough task.

However, doctors have a different tale to tell in the matter and they said that it is common to have side effects of the antifungal injection.

“It is nothing new that patients get side effects of the injection. About 30 to 70 percent of the patients develop side effects of the injection at the initial level and it gets normal after a couple of doses,” HoD of Medicine Department Dr VP Pandey said.

He added that these are mild symptoms but as patients are already suffering from the disease, they found it is severe. The affected patients have already gone through COVID and are now struggling with the deadly fungal infection.

Lyophilized injections will be administered in presence of doctors

According to Dean of MGM Medical College Dr Sanjay Dixit, this time, they received a lot of lyophilized Amphotericin B injections. “Side effects from the injection are common but we will administer the same in front of experts on Sunday to monitor the situation,” Dr Dixit said.

Lyophilized injections are in the powdered form and are comparatively inexpensive than the liposomal one.
