Kolkata: Days after unrest in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district over WAQF protest, ADG-Law & Order Javed Shamim mentions that normalcy is getting restored in the areas.

Addressing the media, he also informs that over 200 people are arrested in connection to the violence.

“Both the central and state forces are in tandem in order to restore peace in the areas. Shops are slowly opening and 19 families so far have returned to their houses and are getting back to normal life. Rumours can reignite tensions so everyone should stay calm and check the facts before acting,” said Shamim.

Speaking about the killings of father and son, Shamim mentions that a case will be filed and all those who are behind the killing will be identified and punished.

Notably, violent protests against the WAQF (Amendment) bill started in Murshidabad since April 8 and three people died and several others got injured in the violence from Suti, Dhulian, Samserganj and Jangipur areas in Murshidabad district.

Incidentally, several women in violence affected areas were seen crying in front of the central forces so that they don’t leave the area domination as they are afraid that they will be again attacked by miscreants if the central forces leave.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar met the displaced Hindu families who took shelter at a school in Malda.

“In Murshidabad, Hindus have been rendered homeless due to brutal attacks by Trinamool-backed jihadi forces. Forced to flee their own homes, many have taken shelter in Maldah’s Paralal High School grounds. Today, I met these displaced Hindu families. We stand firmly with them in this time of crisis. We will never tolerate jihadi brutality against the innocent Bengali Hindus of West Bengal,” said Majumdar.

Meanwhile, after inaugurating a skywalk at Kalighat temple in south Kolkata, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged that no one should get involved in violence.
