With assembly polls drawing near the number of turncoats have been increasing in Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday, two senior Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leaders joined Samajwadi Party in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav. Former minister and state BSP chief Ram Achal Rajbhar and Lalji Verma joined SP with much fanfare at a rally organized in their home district Ambedkarnagar. Lalji Verma was the leader of BSP legislators in the state assembly few months back while Ram Achal Rajbhar has been former party state president.

Speaking at the rally Akhilesh said that with Ram Achal Rajbhar and Lalji Verma coming to SP fold, there would no chance of winning any seat for other parties in Ambedkarnagar and adjoining districts. He said that people of UP are deeply annoyed with BJP government and there would be certain change this time. He claimed that SP would win on at least 400 seats in the coming assembly polls. Akhilesh promised to provide relief from inflation and escalated electricity bills to poor and weavers if voted to power.

Mocking at recent cut in excise duty of petrol and diesel, SP Chief said that it was done after BJP lost in recently held by-elections. He said that let BJP loose UP and there would be no inflation here.

Reacting sharply at the desertion of two of its senior leaders, BSP supremo Mayawati said that there are many SP leaders in her touch and they want to leave Akhilesh. She said that by adopting deserters from BSP, the SP chief would gain nothing instead, he would lose few of his own party leaders. She however said that BSP would not entertain those coming from other parties and prefer its own cadre in giving tickets for the coming assembly polls.

It may be mentioned that a large number of BSP leaders including seven sitting legislators have recently joined SP. Besides many senior leaders from BSP have also left party to join Akhilesh Yadav. Recently two senior leaders of congress from west UP, Harendra and Pankaj Malik have also joined Samajwadi camp. Meanwhile one sitting SP legislator Subhash Pasi has joined BJP last week.

On Sunday SP legislator Rakesh Pratap Singh, who has recently resigned from assembly over ignorance of his constituency, claimed that at least 40 BJP MLAs are ready to quit their own party. He said that all these legislators have intended to join SP.
