In a shocking incident, on Thursday, a 24-year-old woman in Tamil Nadu, mother of two, committed suicide after being scolded by her husband for spending too much time on video-sharing app TikTok.

According to DNA, the woman was identified as Anitha. On the day of the incident, Anitha recorded herself as she drank the poison and then sent the video via WhatsApp to her husband, who is in Singapore. Anitha's husband Pazhanivel did not appreciate his wife's TikTok addiction and had asked her to quit the habit. In her last video, Anitha is seen drinking a dark coloured liquid from a white bottle before breaking into hysterical cough. She died soon after.

The couple has a 4-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son. Quoting family members, the police said recently the girl got hurt while playing, but Anitha continued with her app indulgence, disturbing the entire family. Her relatives then reported her behaviour to her husband who scolded Anitha for being careless. He allegedly told her that he would destroy her phone.

The incident has attracted massive criticism online. Some news channels who published the video on YouTube have, in fact, disabled comments for the video. Owned by Chinese company ByteDance, the short video sharing platform claims to have over 120 million monthly active users in India. This is not the first time TikTok has led to somebody's death.
