New Delhi : In support of its stand not to tweak the Right to Education (RTE) Act clause for automatic promotion of children every year without examination up to Class VIII, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has come out with a chart to judge their performance.

The NCERT is a government body that prepared curricula and textbooks for schools. It has now come out with a chart defining the learning targets from Class I to VIII, asking the human resources development ministry to make it mandatory for all government and private schools to display the chart on the school walls for the benefit of parents, teachers and school management.

Any child faltering on any yardstick will not be stopped in the same class but provided extra coaching to reach the targets set for the class he or she could not clear. NCERT believes this is a better way to overcome protests at automatic promotions of students.
