Munguluru : In another case of suspected moral policing, a 28-year-old supervisor of a supermarket here was thrashed by a group of people for accompanying a girl of another community here to an ATM counter.
The victim, Shakir, was reportedly accompanying the girl, who worked in the same supermarket, to the ATM as the latter wanted money urgently.
The group blocked the two and allegedly stripped the man and tied him to an electric pole last evening. They then thrashed him even as the girl tried to talk logic to the assaulters. She told the mob that he was only helping her out. But the mob refused to listen.
Shakir has been hospitalised and is reportedly critical.
Cases of assault and attempt to murder have been registered against unidentified assailants, the police said.
Investigations were on and four people belonging to a right wing organisation have been detained for questioning, police said.
