Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that she will visit the troubled areas of Murshidabad during the first week of May.

Addressing a public programme at Midnapore, Mamata said that she had already announced Rs. 10 lakh compensation to the family in which two people were killed.

“Some outsiders with the help of a few local people have created tension in two blocks of Murshidabad. Those whose houses are broken, it will be built under the Banglar Bari scheme. Proactive measures will be taken,” said Mamata.

Notably, on Saturday despite objections from the Chief Minister, Governor CV Ananda Bose had visited Murshidabad to meet the affected families and also promised them speedy solutions.

Incidentally, protests started in Murshidabad over the WAQF (Amendment) bill following which violence was seen in several parts of Murshidabad district leaving several Hindu families homeless as hundreds of families had fled to either Malda district or Jharkhand.

After Murshidabad, sporadic incidents of violence were also heard in Malda, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly, with reports of arson, stone-pelting, and road blockades.

With the Chief Minister’s ‘outsider’ remark, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had claimed that Mamata is ‘misleading’ the people.

However, apart from the Governor, the National Commission for Women and National Human Right Commission also visited Murshidabad to meet the affected families.
