New Delhi: The Delhi government and police will test the newly set up air siren system in central Delhi's ITO on Friday afternoon as a safety precaution due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. A police officer stated that the sirens can be heard within a range of 4 km.

According to a government directive, the testing will begin at 3 pm and last for 15-20 minutes. “Consequently, it is requested that sufficient promotion be carried out via social and electronic media to ensure the general public is informed to remain calm and not to panic during the aforementioned exercise,” the order signed by district magistrate (Central) G. Sudhakar states.

According to an officer, Delhi police teams have been sent out to assess the readiness of both the personnel and the equipment. The civil defence directorate will conduct the tests at the public works department (PWD) headquarters located at ITO.

The city police stressed that the operation on Friday is merely a trial and urged the public not to panic. For instance, a practice drill was held for local residents and school students on Wednesday following the centre's instructions to ready individuals for potential emergencies.

The officer in charge at the Daryaganj station also issued public announcements on Friday morning stating: “Today, at 3 pm, there will be an inspection of air raid sirens at PWD HQ. The sirens can be heard from a distance of 4 km. Don’t worry because this is just a verification. In the future, whenever we utilise this, it will serve as a warning indicator. However, not today."
