India's daily COVID-19 case tally remained below the one lakh mark for the third consecutive day, bringing the total number of active cases to 11.67 lakh. At the same time however, the death toll has set a new record, far surpassing numbers recorded at the peak of the second wave of the pandemic. As per Health Ministry data, India reported 94,052 new cases, 1,51,367 discharges and 6,148 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The change in numbers come after Bihar revised its COVID-19 death toll, adding a 72% jump in fatalities. According to an NDTV report, the Nitish Kumar-led government has now revised its death toll to stand at 9,429. As such, while it is counted as a part of India's statistics in the last 24 hours, it does not mean the situation has worsened overnight.
It must however be mentioned that as the various states 'unlock' there has been a slight rise recorded in some areas.
