New Delhi : In a major jolt to Arvind Kejriwal and other Aam Admi Party (AAP) leaders, a Delhi court on Saturday put the Delhi chief minister and some of his senior party colleagues on trial in a criminal defamation case filed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) matter. The notice was framed by chief metropolitan magist-rate Sumit Dass and trial will begin on May 20.
Kejriwal and his colleagues had accused Jaitley, who was the DDCA president for about 13 years till 2013, of financial bungling.Kejriwal and the other AAP leaders have pleaded not guilty. Jaitley had filed a criminal defamation complaint against Kejriwal and AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpayee for allegedly defaming him in the Patiala House Court, while a civil defamation case was filed in the Delhi High Court.
Jaitley had claimed they made “defamatory” statements in a case involving Delhi and District Cricket Association, thereby harming his reputation. He asked for Rs 10 crore in damages.
