New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of adopting ‘extreme undemocratic means’ to prove her relevance in the state’s politics.

“Elections are known as a dance of democracy. But in West Bengal, it has become a dance of violence and Mamata Banerjee is desperate to prove a point that she is relevant in West Bengal politics, and for that, she is willing to adopt extreme undemocratic means,” BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh told ANI. “It is a daylight murder of democracy under Mamata Banerjee. Her government has not done a single thing for the people of Bengal,” he added.

Earlier in the day, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was shot dead in front of a polling booth in the Katwa municipality Ward no 14 of Bardhaman District during the ongoing municipal corporation elections in the state. Meanwhile, 16 crude bombs have been recovered from Sonamukhi in the state’s Bankura District. Security has been beefed up across the state as 91 civic bodies go to polls.
