Netflix's new release, The Last House, has left the internet buzzing with its gripping storyline and shocking ending. The film asks a haunting question: What happens when almost the entire world dies and only one family survives because of their survival skills? Directed by Louis Leterrier, the movie follows the Delgado family of four, whose ordinary life in Seattle is turned upside down after a mysterious rain traps them inside their house.
The Last House Ending Explained
At the end of The Last House, five years have passed since the Delgado family became trapped inside their home with no way of stepping outside. Over the years, they managed to survive by creating a self-sufficient life within the house. However, everything changes when their daughter is bitten by an animal. The only way to save her is to get medicine from outside. While searching for a way out, the family discovers that the underground pipes are connected to the outside world. Ruth, the mother of the family, decides to crawl through them in search of the medicine. She successfully reaches the outside and finds what she needs, but on her way back, she comes face-to-face with a giant sea creature. After a fierce struggle, Ruth manages to escape.
The incident makes the family realise that they cannot stay trapped forever. To survive, they must fight their way out. They head together to fight against the sea creature. Although they manage to restrain the sea creature, they are still unable to open the sealed doors. Jason, the father of the family, threatens to kill the creature unless it opens the door. But in that moment, he realises that, just like him, the creature has only been protecting its home for all these years. Instead of killing it, Jason cuts the ropes and sets it free. Moments later, the doors open, allowing the Delgado family to finally step outside.
However, they soon discover that there are no other survivors left. With nothing else to do, the Delgado family boards their fishing boat and heads out to sea in search of life. They repeatedly call out over the radio, wondering whether there is any survivor left. Just before the film ends, they hear a faint, distorted voice, hinting that they may not be the only survivors after all.
