Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman was rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning after he complained of chest pain. His estranged wife, Saira Banu, later shared a message via her spokesperson, wishing the music maestro a speedy recovery, and while at it, she also urged people to not refer to her as his 'ex-wife'.
Saira shared a voice note via her spokesperson in which she said, "I wish him a speedy recovery. I received the news that he had chest pain and underwent angiography, and by the grace of Allah, he is fine now; he is doing well."
She then went on to say, "I want to tell all of you that we are not officially divorced, we are still husband and wife, it's just that we are separated because I was not feeling well for the last two years and I didn't want to stress him too much but please don't say 'ex-wife'. It's just that we are separated but my prayers are always with him and I want to say one thing to everyone, especially his family, that please don't stress him too much, and take care of him. Thank you, Allah Hafiz".
On Sunday morning, AR Rahman was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after he complained of pain in his chest. Doctors later confirmed that he felt unwell because of dehydration, coupled by fasting for Ramzan.
For those unversed, Rahman and Saira announced their separation in November 2024 after 29 years of marriage.We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again," Rahman's separation post had stated.
Rahman and Saira got married in 1995 and share three children—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
