Esteemed fashion designer Rohit Bal is in critical condition due to a pre-existing cardiac condition and has been hospitalized at Medanta Hospital in the National Capital Region (NCR), as per sources informed HT City. The designer, who experienced a major heart attack approximately 13 years ago in 2010, is currently on a ventilator.
Rohit, aged 62, has reportedly been in a cycle of entering and leaving rehabilitation facilities and hospitals due to struggles with alcohol addiction, leading to subsequent health issues. In a similar situation last November, Bal was admitted to Medanta Hospital for citing same reasons and received a visit from his longtime friend, model, and actor Arjun Rampal.
In a previous interview with HT City, a close confidant of Bal revealed that during that period, the situation was so critical that the fashion designer's system had to be purged of alcohol and other intoxicants.
In 2010, Bal experienced a heart attack, which required subsequent angioplasty to address the condition.
Having dominated the fashion industry for nearly three decades, Bal boasts an illustrious career filled with accolades. He earned the title of 'Designer of the Year' at the International Fashion Awards in both 2001 and 2004, as well as at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006. In February 2012, he was honored as the grand finale designer at Lakme Fashion Week. Time Magazine referred to him as India's Master of fabric and fantasy.
Rohit has designed creations for celebrities such as Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vidya Balan, and Shraddha Kapoor. Additionally, he has been the designer behind all the ensembles worn by Amitabh Bachchan on Kaun Banega Crorepati.
