Veteran actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty is recovering after undergoing a minor hand surgery at a private hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. The procedure was performed on August 6, and hospital sources have said that the actor is responding well to treatment.
On Friday morning (August 7), West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited Chakraborty at the hospital, located off the EM Bypass, to enquire about his health. He was accompanied by Jadavpur MLA Sarbari Mukherjee and several BJP leaders during the visit.
The CM also met the doctors treating the veteran actor and sought an update on his medical condition. As per a report in The Statesman, Chakraborty is recovering steadily and is expected to be discharged within the next couple of days.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the actor, the Chief Minister praised Mithun Chakraborty’s contribution to both cinema and public life. He said, “He is an asset of Bengal. His contribution goes beyond politics. At the same time, Mahaguru played a significant role in bringing a nationalist government to Bengal. It was a small surgery and he is doing well.”
Photographs of the CM interacting with the actor at the hospital have also surfaced on social media, with Adhikari later sharing images from the visit on his official handles.
Known for delivering several blockbuster films during the 1980s, including the iconic Disco Dancer, Mithun Chakraborty remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated stars. In recent years, he has also been actively involved in politics after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the end of his association with Mamata Banerjee.
Despite his advancing age and recurring health issues, Chakraborty played an active role in the BJP’s campaign during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. He addressed multiple public rallies and participated in roadshows across the state. Although he reportedly fell ill during one phase of the campaign, he resumed electioneering after recovering.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Mithun will next be seen in films like Fauji, Batwara 1947, Phirbo Abar, Jailer 2 and in an untitled action film with Ratul Mukherjee.
