Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer DC, released on Friday, August 7, has opened its theatrical run with a decent first-day performance at the worldwide box office. The film marks Lokesh's debut as a lead actor and is loosely adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's 1917 novel Devdas.
Anirudh Ravichander's music generated strong pre-release buzz, while netizens have praised Lokesh and Wamiqa's performances, with the soundtrack also receiving significant appreciation.
DC Box Office Collection Day 1
According to Sacnilk, the Tamil version of DC recorded Rs 5.70 crore in worldwide gross collections on Day 1.
The film earned Rs 4.70 crore in India gross collections, while its overseas business stands at Rs 1 crore. After applicable deductions, DC has collected Rs 4.10 crore in net collections in India. The film registered these numbers across 3,504 shows, indicating a notable theatrical reach on its opening day.
The Tamil version recorded Rs 2.60 crore in net collections, making it the primary contributor to the film’s domestic business. Meanwhile, the Hindi version added Rs 25 lakh in net collections on Day 1. The remaining contribution comes from other versions and markets.
DC Budget
There is currently no official confirmation regarding the exact budget of DC. However, according to a report by KoiMoi, the film was reportedly made on a budget of around Rs 25 crore.
If the reported budget is accurate, the opening-day numbers give the film a reasonable starting point, although it will require steady growth over the weekend and strong collections during the coming days to move closer to recovering its investment.
With Rs 5.70 crore worldwide gross on Day 1, DC has made a promising start. The film’s performance over Saturday and Sunday will be crucial in determining whether it can maintain momentum and turn its opening into a strong theatrical run.
