More than 4,000 students from across Mumbai and suburbs participated in the annual event hosted by the St. Joseph High School (SJHS) in Wadala. Held between December 12-14, the event saw a great display of young talent across 77 competitions.

3-day festival at Wadala school

The 3-day event marked the 107th year celebration of the establishment, titled' The Josephite Festival'.

A total of nearly 100 schools enrolled in a wide range of competitions. From contests based on 21st-century skills like speed typing and ethical hacking to the usual ones like drawing, singing, elocution, and fancy dress, the fest served as a platform to encourage both technical skills and creativity. These events were organised in four different categories to let kids of the same age group compete with each other.

Principal speaks

"This festival is a platform for children to understand the true meaning of competition. As they participate, they gauge themselves where they stand amidst competition posed by other school students as well as their friends. It is a step to prepare them for the future. We want our children to be well prepared to face life", says Principal Rev. Fr. Solomon Rapol while mentioning that the event has seen children displaying the sportsman spirit.

New innitative: Lucky draw

Notably, this year, the school principal introduced a lucky draw at the festival, which offered a chance for students to win exciting prizes. All attendees of the fest could buy lottery tickets to try their luck on bringing home a cycle, smartwatch, school bag, or airdopes.

More details

Seeking the blessings of St. Don Bosco and St. Joseph at the success of the event, he said, "At this festival, let children play, jump, enjoy, and learn. May God bless them all at this wonderful Josephite Festival".

He then expressed gratitude to the school staff, parents, and well-wishers who put efforts to organize the grand celebration.

The centenary celebrations in 2017 gave birth to this annual inter-school festival. SJHS in Wadala started in 1917 with five students and a dedicated teacher. Now, it is proudly celebrating its 107th year.
