World Environment Day is observed on 5th of June every year to raise global awareness with a view to initiate positive environmental actions to protect nature. This year World Environment Day was observed over Western Railway with the theme 'Ecosystem Restoration’ at Headquarters & across all six divisions. To mark this occasion, Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway planted a sapling in the lawns of Headquarter building by following COVID – 19 safety protocols.

According to Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, in view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the World Environment Day was observed digitally through webinar which was presided by General Manager Kansal and was attended by senior officers & representatives of recognized trade unions & associations. Addressing the webinar, Alok Kansal stressed upon the need to take all possible steps in the day to day working of Railways to conserve environment & find ways to protect our Ecosystem. Taking forward this commitment, Kansal launched the ‘Mission Zero Leakage’, a novel initiative to conserve water & to plug the wastage of water. He appealed to judiciously use water.
