Sensex touches new high; capital goods stocks surge

Mumbai:  A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Tuesday scaled a new peak and was trading at 99.95 points or 0.34 percent up. The index touched a high of 29,456.63 points, surpassing its previous high of 29,408.73 points it touched Jan 23. Good buying was observed in capital goods, auto and banking, while selling pressure was seen in IT, metal and technology, media and entertainment (TECK) sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 29,451.65 points, was trading at 29,378.79 points (at 09.29 a.m.) in the early session, up 99.95 points or 0.34 percent from the previous day’s close at 29,278.84 points. The Sensex has touched a high of 29,456.63 points and a low of 29,298.59 points in the trade so far. The S&P capital goods index surged by 317.49 points, auto index went up by 147.17 points and bankex gained by 106.79 points. However, IT index slipped by 151.82 points, metal index dropped by 107.53 points and TECK index went down by 56.99 points. The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also was trading 17.25 points or 0.20 percent up at 8,852.85 points.
