NEW DELHI : Companies can now apply online for environment and forest clearances, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said on

Thursday.

The move is aimed at expediting the entire process.

Javadekar said the new system for online submission of applications for environmental clearances has become fully operational from today.

No applications would be entertained for clearances through any route other than the online method from July 2014, he added.

As of now, project proponents need to fill up forms and submit applications physically with the environment ministry. For forest clearances, a similar online system would be in place from the next month, Javadekar said.

The minister expects the new system for online submission of applications for environment clearance will bring transparency.

It will allow applicants as well as clearance authorities to keep a tab on the entire process while adhering to the timeline of various clearances.

The ministry is keen to ensure speedy clearances to a clutch of infrastructure projects awaiting

final nod from the

ministry.         -Cogencis
