The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has taken a significant step in the fight against money laundering by provisionally attaching 31 immovable properties in Goa, collectively valued at Rs 39.24 crore (circle rate).

According to a press release, this action comes as part of the ongoing money laundering investigation targeting individuals involved in the illegal acquisition of properties.

The ED's investigation was initiated based on multiple FIRs registered by the Goa Police against individuals including Vikrant Shetty, Mohammed Suhail, Rajkumar Maithi, and others implicated in the unlawful grabbing of immovable properties across Goa.

In response to the severity of the situation, the Government of Goa established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to collaborate with law enforcement in examining the matter.

According to ED findings, the accused persons were involved in the illicit acquisition of various immovable properties, either in their names or under the names of their associates and relatives.

To support their claims that these properties belonged to their ancestors, forged documents were allegedly placed in the land records.

The accused then manipulated succession deeds and inventories, allowing them to update or insert their names into the land records. Subsequently, some of these unlawfully acquired properties were reportedly sold to buyers from both Goa and other states.

The provisional attachment of these properties, worth Rs 39.24 crore at the circle rate, is a significant move by the ED to curb the illegal acquisition of assets and money laundering activities.

The ED's relentless pursuit of justice aims to expose and penalize those engaged in such fraudulent practices.

The investigation is ongoing, with ED officials working diligently to unravel the full extent of the illicit activities and bring the culprits to justice.
