Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A fire broke out at a hospital in capital Bhopal on Friday night causing panic among patients and hospital staff. Fortunatley, No casualties were reported.

According to information, the incident occurred at Deepshikha Hospital in Vidya Nagar on Hoshangabad Road.

The fire started in the emergency room on the ground floor at around 10.35 pm.

A short circuit in an electrical board is suspected to have caused the blaze. The flames spread to plywood cupboards and other material kept near the board.

The hospital’s electricity supply was immediately disconnected as a safety measure.

However, the power cut made it difficult to evacuate patients, particularly those admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Bagsewaniya police personnel and hospital employees jointly evacuated all 21 patients and shifted them to Sahara Hospital.

Five to six of them were undergoing treatment in the ICU. Some women who had recently undergone caesarean deliveries were also moved out carefully.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Veer Mani Pandey said police personnel and three to four hospital employees carried ICU patients in their arms or supported them while taking them outside.

The hospital’s staircase had enough space and windows, allowing smoke to escape upwards and making the evacuation easier.

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation sent a fire tender to the hospital soon after receiving information about the incident. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by around 11 pm.

BMC fire officer Shaurav Patel said the fire was completely extinguished after all the patients were safely taken out of the building.

Timely action by the police, hospital staff and firefighters prevented a major tragedy.

According to the police, an initial investigation indicates that a wire inside the electrical board may have short-circuited.

The hospital was completely evacuated after the fire, and its power supply remained disconnected.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze and assess the damage caused inside the emergency room.
