BHOPAL: Following the field reports of duplication of voters’ names and photographs, a team of election commission has been pressed to manually check the electoral roll with the online data of the commission. Over three dozen employees started the work on Wednesday. Five tehsildars posted at the commission’s office have been deputed with this humongous task. Each tehsildar has responsibility of rechecking electoral roll of ten districts.
Sources say that the duplicate and repeated entries could be in thousands and the manual check might take couple of days to complete. Sources confirmed that the exercise is being done on selective lists sent by district election officers of 51 districts compiled on the basis of report prepared by booth level officers where duplicate entries of voters with single photograph in the electoral roll were found at many places. deputy CEO said that the re-checking process was only a precautionary exercise to confirm that no invalid voter remains in the list.
A recent incident in Satna is said to be the reason behind this exercise. A BLO (Booth Level Officer) in Ram Nagar area of Amarpatan town had raised the issue of duplicate (bogus) voters in the electoral roll. Satna district returning officer Mukesh Shukla had launched an inquiry and the charges were found to be true and a•Tehsildar Ambika Prasad Pandey along with two others were suspended. Repeated complaints of Congress over bogus voters in Narela constituency is said to be another reason
